Before You Launch: Questions to Answer First

Launching a token is now trivially easy — a few minutes, no code, a small fee. The ease is the trap. The technical step is not the hard part and never was; everything that determines whether this goes well or badly happens before you touch the launchpad.

Answer these honestly, in writing

  1. What is this for? "A joke with friends", "a community experiment" and "I would like other people's money" are all real answers. Only two of them are ones you can say out loud, and the third is a plan to harm people.
  2. What do buyers get? If the answer is "the chance to sell to someone later", say that plainly wherever you promote it. That is the actual product.
  3. What will you hold, and what will you do with it? Decide before launch, publish it, and then honour it. Undisclosed insider selling is the single most common way a launch becomes a scam without its creator ever deciding to run one.
  4. What happens when it falls? It will. Will you keep the channel open and keep talking, or disappear? Decide now, because you will not decide well in the moment.
  5. What is legal where you live, and where your audience lives? Promoting a token can be a regulated activity. Creator fee income is usually taxable. Ignorance is not a defence in either case.

The ethical floor

You cannot make a meme coin safe. You can be straight about what it is. The difference between a joke people opted into and a fraud is almost entirely disclosure: what you hold, what you will sell, who else was let in early, and what you are being paid.

  • Never promise or imply returns, floors, "guaranteed" anything, or a price that "cannot" go down.
  • Never claim backing, partnership, or endorsement you do not have — including from any exchange, brokerage, or chain operator whose name resembles yours.
  • Disclose paid promotion, every time, in the post itself rather than in a bio.
  • Do not target people who cannot afford the loss, and do not use urgency to prevent them thinking.
If your launch plan only works when buyers do not understand it, you are not running a launch. Stop.
